Super Eagles keep Nations Cup hopes alive with hard fought 3-1 win over Sudan
NIGERIA'S Super Eagles have kept their slim hopes of qualifying for next year's African Cup of Nations alive with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Sudan in Abuja.
Bottom of Group A before today's game, the Eagles only had one point from a draw away to South Africa, having lost 2-3 to Congo in Calabar and 0-1 to Sudan in Omdurman.
However, thanks to three second half goals with a brace from CSKA winger Ahmed Musa and goal from Aaron Samuel, Nigeria now has four points.
All goals came in the second half, with Musa opening the score in the 48th minute, before Sudan equalised in the 55th minute.
Samuel made it 2-1 in the 68th minute before Musa sealed the win with five minutes to go.
Nigeria now has to pick up the maximum six points from her remaining two games away to Congo and at home to South Africa to stand an outside chance of qualifying for Morocco 2015. Congo and South Africa will face each other later today in the group.
