THE "ALHAJI" IN DOUGLAS HOUSE OWERRI :: 40% IMOLITES MAY BECOME MUSLIMS BY 2019
THE "ALHAJI" IN DOUGLAS HOUSE OWERRI :: 40% IMOLITES MAY BECOME MUSLIMS BY 2019 =======..Church leaders are asking the Imo State Governor, His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha to clear the air on Media reports that he donated N2 million to 17 Imo indigenes who converted to Islam, a report that has sent shock waves into the spine of the clergy and many Imo citizens.
The event which reportedly took place at the Abuja National Mosque, under Chief Imam Sheik Musa Muhammed, also saw former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia state donating N1 million to the converts, while Sokoto and Bauchi State Governors Aliyu Wamakko and Alhaji Isa Yuguda respectively gave N5million each.
The Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, His Grace Most Rev. Anthony J.V. Obinna and the entire clergy of the Archdiocese are demanding that the Governor comes clean of the allegations. They are demanding Governor Rochas Okorocha to publicly refute or validate the disturbing incident and explain his role in the whole saga. They said, “the allegation is quite serious and some explanation is urgently needed”.
The converts who were said to be between the ages of 25 and 35, and include one Yoruba, and a Northern Hausa Christian were: Chief Suleiman Nwachukwu, Ibrahim Uchenna Ukah, Muhammad Sani Stanley Uziogwe, Bello Kelvin Nmadu, Habibullah Kosoro Ofolete, Jamilu Osita Agocha, Haruna Chichebem Nwabirika, Abdulazeez Paschal Iroegbulam, Suleiman Ifeanyi Uzoma, Adam Nduka Nweke, Dawuda Nnaemeka Uzoma, Aliyu Prince Onyekwume and Musa (Anayo) Adugbaa, all of Imo State. Others are Abdulmalik Bongo Edet (Cross River), Hassan Babalola Shegun (Ondo), Nasir Peter Ndubisi (Anambra) and Bashir Prince Dulla (Akwa Ibom).
Owelle Rochas Okorocha who was said to have attended the conversion ceremony was also said to have spoken glowingly of Islam, and allegedly described the conversion of the Igbo youths as an ‘important milestone in the growth of Islam in the Eastern Heartland’. ”
Last year, the National Christian Watch, a Lagos based Christian organization conducted an online research on ‘the effects of money-induced conversion from Christianity to Islam and estimated that 40 per cent of the population of Imo State may become Muslims by the end of 2019, if the cash-induced, government-backed conversion to Islam was allowed to continue.
Asked why he changed faith, one of the converts Ibrahim Ukah, formerly Uchenna Ukah, the younger brother of another convert, Tobechi Ukah, now Abdullahi Ukah said: “I was attracted to Islam because of the truth it resonated in me, and I saw the charity of the faith which all its adherents find peace and solace in.”
The other converts also affirmed the beauty of Islam as well as the virtues of Muslims as they took the oath of Sha’adah under Chief Imam Sheik Musa Muhammed who also addressed them by their newly- adopted Muslim names.
The new converts commended the Chairman of the Council of Village Heads in Imo State, Chief Musa (Sylvester) O. Dimunah, who accepted Islam in January last year as well as former secretary of the Council and the executive secretary of the Justice Mamman Nasir’s Islamic Centre for Peace and Research, Alhaji Ibrahim Biobo Nlomije, whom they said facilitated their conversion.
Also speaking, Alhaji Nlomije said the conversion was an indication that Islam was not a sectional religion.
Many critiques are asking if Governor Rochas is part of the grand design to Islamize the Igboland?
