Child Rights Group rejects Buhari

Movement for the Eradication of Child Abandonment (MECA), has rejected the candidature of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd) of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Saturday, March 28 Presidential election.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Mrs. Eugene Afonja and its Secretary, Obi Erumaka, the group said it took the decision because neither the leadership of APC nor Gen. Buhari, has rebuked Mrs. Aisha Buhari for referring to Edo women as prostitutes.

Mrs. Buhari had in a campaign rally for her husband’s presidential bid in Edo State over the weekend, purportedly described the women of the State, as “prostitutes” claiming her husband’s administration will stop the prostitution by Edo women abroad.
“We are perplexed, flummoxed, and aghast beyond comprehension on the most insensitive, careless, callous and barbaric utterances by the Wife of Major General Muhammadu Buhari on the women of Edo State, Nigeria.

It is disheartening to listen to a woman who should confront the challenges that characterize the state of these helpless children and provide succor and encouragement to them rather comes out openly to group the entire women of Edo as prostitutes, what a shame! She was giving out in child marriage at an unbelievable age to a man who was old enough to be her grandfather, we expected this woman to be a strong advocate of anything that degrade the dignity of women,” the group said.

It called on Nigerians, especially women and mothers to reject Buhari at the polls and cast their votes for the other candidates.
“We at MECA have come to an irresistible and sad conclusion that the man who aspires to govern our country on the platform of APC, is a true oppressor of women who is so inhuman to pay the bride price for an underage.

In our 10 years of existence we have tried to the best of our ability not to be partisan, however, we at MECA will never stop, we will never rest, we will never sleep until the war against child abandonment, child molestation and child abuse is won. Accordingly, we are for the very first time calling on our members in the 36 states and the FCT, every Mother and every person who has passed through childhood to reject Buhari for this very reasons brought forward,” it noted.See more

Russia ready to repel any nuke strike, retaliate – missile forces command chief.

Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces are ready to react to any nuclear strike even if it is lightning fast, SMF Central Command chief said. A retaliatory strike would take place in all circumstances, “without hesitation,” he added.

“If there’s a challenge to repel a lightning-fast nuclear in any given conditions – it will be done in fixed time, that’s dead true,” the Strategic Missile Forces Central Command’s chief, Major-General Andrey Burbin, told Russian News Service on Saturday.

Russia’s strategic missile forces are positioned geographically in such a way that no global strike can knock them out completely, Burbin said.

In case an order is given to carry out a nuclear strike, Russian nuclear weapons operators will fulfill it, he added.

“There would be no hesitation, the task would be executed,” he said.

The unavoidability of a retaliatory nuclear strike from Russia is also guaranteed by the fully automatic and constantly modernized ‘Perimeter’ system, also known as “Dead hand.”

The system collects data from various sources, such as radioactivity and seismic sensors scattered throughout Russia, by scanning radio frequencies and communication activities.Read more

Venezuela to shrink US Embassy staff, require tourist visas

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuela will shrink the size of the U.S. Embassy staff, limit the activities of U.S. diplomats and require American citizens to apply for visas if they want to come bask on the beach.

Speaking before a crowd that rallied to protest imperialism, President Nicolas Maduro said Saturday that "gringo" meddling had forced him to adopt the series of restrictive measures, which include requiring U.S. diplomats to seek approval from the Foreign Ministry for meetings they conduct here.

Maduro said he was imposing the new tourist visa requirement for national security reasons, saying that in recent days authorities had detained several U.S. citizens who he alleged were involved in espionage, including an American pilot.Read more
